US based mobile service provider AT&T has announced a new mobile charging product called Zero Charger, AT&T ZERO Charger is the eco-friendly charging solution for mobile phones. Conventional chargers left plugged in – even when not actively charging – can draw as much as 5 to 20 times more energy than stored in the battery. The advanced, energy-saving AT&T ZERO Charger outperforms other chargers by automatically shutting down when not in use.
AT&T has developed this product in collaboration with Superior Communications. The company said that it would be available in their retail stores from May this year, This device is expected to retail in the market for around USD 30.

Smart. But it surprises me that this is not a standard feature of every charger. It should not be very difficult to make. But probably it adds another 10 cents or so to the component cost.
