Built-in accessibility.
Accessibility comes standard on iPod touch. It’s built right into the operating system. And innovative features on iPod touch take accessibility a step further.
Screen reading with VoiceOver.
In addition to Voice Control, iPod touch features VoiceOver, the world’s first gesture-based screen reader. Instead of memorising keyboard commands or pressing tiny arrow keys, you simply touch the screen to hear a description of the item under your finger, then double-tap, drag or flick to control iPod touch. VoiceOver speaks 25 languages and works with all the applications built into iPod touch. And now, common VoiceOver keyboard commands are recognised by an external keyboard.
VoiceOver also features a virtual control called the rotor. Turning the rotor by rotating two fingers on the screen as if you were turning a dial changes the way VoiceOver moves through a document based on a setting you choose. For example, a flick up or down could move through text word by word or character by character, perfect for proofreading or editing text.
Video calling with FaceTime.
FaceTime on iPod touch makes it possible to have video calls with friends and family across the globe perfect for sign-language conversations. It works new iPod touch to new iPod touch or iPhone 4 over Wi-Fi just enter your Apple ID and email address. In fact, making video calls is as simple as it gets: Just tap the FaceTime app and find the person you want to call. An invitation pops up on their iPod touch or iPhone 4 screen asking if they want to join. When they accept, FaceTime begins. If somebody wants to start a video call with you, you’ll receive an invitation along with a vibrating alert on your iPod touch asking you to join. Simply tap Accept and the video call begins.
Zoom and magnify.
Zoom on iPod touch lets you magnify the entire screen of any application. Zoom up to 5 times normal size and move left, right, up and down to view any portion of the screen up close. Zoom works everywhere, including the Home, Unlock and Search screens and with every app you purchase from the App Store.
White on black for higher contrast.
If you prefer higher contrast, iPod touch lets you change the display to white on black. Use the White on Black feature in any application, as well as the Home, Unlock and Search screens and with Zoom and VoiceOver.
Mono audio.
If your hearing is limited in one ear, turn on Mono Audio to route audio into both earbuds, so you can hear both channels in either ear.
Voice Memos - Go ahead, say what’s on your mind.
Record memos (or any audio).
You might have a good memory. But sometimes, it’s nice to have a backup. Record notes from a lecture, a reminder of when tickets go on sale or a bet between you and a friend. With Voice Memos, you can record any audio you want using the built-in mic on iPod touch or an external mic. Voice Memos will even record while you use your iPod touch to do things such as check email or surf the web.
Cut to the chase.
You can trim recorded memos right on iPod touch. That way, you keep only what you need.
Organise your thoughts.
Keep all your memos organised by choosing labels from a predefined list or by creating custom labels.
Spread the word.
Send memos to your friends, classmates and co-workers via email. Memos you record on iPod touch sync back to your Mac or PC via iTunes, so you can share them later.
