Facebook is one of the most popular social networking sites, probably the best. You can share photos, status messages, and comment and likes the posts of others. All these activities help you to stay connected online and in the loop. However, since the World Wide Web has a lot to offer it also comes at a heavy price. If you are not careful then you might just have to pay that price.
Let us understand the “like” option in Facebook. If your friends share a post, status message, image or video, you have the option to click on “like” thus showing a positive sign to it. This is fine. However, through this “like” you can also get connected to several Facebook pages. On liking them you automatically get subscribed to that page and every post made from that profile page gets reflected on your wall for your friends to see. This is a marketing technique. Many firms have their pages on Facebook and want people to interact with them to understand more about their products and service offerings for more business.
When you like a page, you are adding to that pages popularity. There are a few ways by which you can be in a soup here. First of all when you like any page, ensure that the administrator or the owner of that page is trusted. If not then what can happen is, after you like that page and get subscribed to it, the owner can change the details of the page turning it into some anti social page like pornography, anti country, terrorism etc. and it would show you as a member of it. Not just that, all the updated would show in your profile as well. This can lead to severe consequences. Hence always ensure that the page you are going to like is trusted as it affects your own credibility also.
