How to install iOS 5 on iPhone 4/4S?

In order to make a switch from your present operating system on your iPhone 4 or 4S, you first need to upgrade the medium through which it will take place, i.e. your iTunes. First, you will need the latest version of iTunes, which is version 10.5. Go on the iTunes tab on the top left, and click on check for updates button. Once you have successfully upgraded iTunes to 10.5, you may use the USB cord to connect your iPhone to your PC. There are chances that the update might start automatically without you performing any steps. Else, you will need to update it manually by clicking on ‘check for updates’ which will appear on the left hand side under your ‘devices’ tab.
As soon as you click on the update button, a pop up will appear, which will ask you to confirm whether you want to install the latest version (5.0) of the iOS. There will be an option for only downloading, where as there will be another option for downloading as well as installing. In case you want to install later, just click on the download tab. Else, click on download and install. You should be aware that the iOS 5 update is quite big, and it approximately 688 mega bytes. Depending on your internet connection, this might take up some time to download. At times, the time taken is as much as more than an hour.
Your download will begin once you press the desired button. If you want to monitor the progress bar, you can click on the ‘download’ tab under the STORE button on the left hand side. You will see the progress bar rising till it eventually reaches the 100% mark. If you have selected the download and install option, the iOS 5 will automatically start updating on its own. Once the process is complete, it will prompt you for some information such as your date of birth, agreeing to the terms and conditions and so on.
