Using the Hibernate setting in Windows Vista is a great way to save power and to close your system quickly. And if you create a Hibernate shortcut on your desktop, you can send your computer to this semi-sleep state with the click of a mouse. In fact, unlike Sleep mode, when you Hibernate, there is no energy consumption at all.

Follow this step to Create a Hibernate Shortcut in Windows Vista
1. Right click on a empty area of the desktop.
2. Click on New and Shortcut.
3. Type shutdown.exe -h in the location field and click on Next
4. Click next, and then type the name of the shortcut into the box. The name can be anything that you want, but preferably something related to Hibernate.
5. Click Finish. The shortcut will be placed on your desktop
6. Right click on the new Hibernate shortcut (on desktop) and click Properties.
7. Click on the Change Icon button
8. A new window will pop up. Select an icon from the window by double-clicking it. The window will close.
9. Click Apply on the properties window, and the icon will be changed
