Developers Sees Quick Adoption of iOS 5.1 Amongst The users Who are using The Gadgets

iOS developer Mr. David Smith has been posting iOS version stats for his Universal app Audiobooks.

Audiobook app is available at the iTunes for Download. It is an app which was updated on Nov 10, 2011; its version is 4.8.1 whereas its size is 12.5 MB. The requirement of the Audiobook app it’s compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. And Requires iOS 3.0 or later.

Now coming back to the iOS 5.1 version, David Smith gets at least 100,000 weekly downloads to both his paid versions and free versions and he believes it to be a statistically meaningful data set. When the iOS 5.1 versions was launched on 7th of March, 2012, Smith started to track down the adoption rate by the users which were suspected by him to be faster than in the past due to the availability of over the air (OTA) iOS updates. He found out that only after 5 days after the release of the iOS 5.1, 50% of the users who have OTA available, converted to iOS 5.1.

Now when we look around in the market conditions, more than 77% of the users with OTA available, upgraded to the latest version, after 15 days of its launch. When Smith goes back to include all versions of iOS including versions such as iOS 3 and iOS 4 which do not offer OTA updates, an adoption of 61% was found by him in these 15 days.

When we look on to the market condition for the adoption of the various versions by the users, iOS 4.0 took 1 month to hit 50% usage by web traffic. Fortunately or unfortunately, the numbers are not entirely interchangeable as they are from different data sets means they are taken from the apps usage vs. web usage. But it can give you an idea of the scale of usage by the users. The release of iOS 5.1 version is considered to be a major new feature release and hence was included in the successful iPhone 4 launch.

Apple had introduced “over-the-air” iOS updates for the users as of iOS 5.0 which allows users to upgrade their devices without connecting the gadget to a computer. Since then Apple have moved to two different upgrades the first is 5.01 and the other is 5.1 to the users
